MY FAVORITE QUILT

I thought I would post an oldie but a goodie ( no, not a picture of me). This is a picture of the quilt that means more to me than any other quilt I have made. It is my New York Beauty called, "Out of the Darkness, Into God's Light". I made it a couple of month's after I nearly died from an infection in my heart. When I got out of the hospital, I couldn't remember how to do the simplest thing as far as quilting goes.. Then it seemed that one day God turned on a light in my brain, and gave me the ability and the idea for my quilt. When I made it I felt like I was driven. I finished it within 2 weeks of starting it. I even found a psalm that I wrote on the label that explained the quilt perfectly. It was Psalm 13:28, which reads, "You, O' Lord keep my lamp burning, My God turns my darkness into light." I really felt like God had led me out of the darkness.. I survived something that I should have died from, and I was given back my ability to make a quilt. What more could I ever want?

Teri, that is a very beautiful quilt and experience you've shared. My journey of developing as a quilter was fueled by ill-health and the need to feel complete and whole, so I do relate somewhat to your experience. hangeth in.

Hope both you and your husband are feeling better. Jen

Most of my quilts this year have been responses to the uncontrollable events of the past few years. I have not started any of them with the intent of "soul searching" but it has happened in spite of myself. Kudos to the ability to turn a life changing event into art!

Amen! What a beautiful quilt. Thanks for sharing it. Do you know that old church camp song, "Give me oil in my lamp keep me burning burning burning, give me oil in my lamp, I pray!" It goes on and on with other verses, "give me gas for my ford, keep me trucking for the Lord." etc etc.
