I took a class with Jan Krentz for the express purpose of learning how to piece a lone star. While everyone else was making normal sized projects, I worked on this miniature, because that is the kind of competition project that I had in mind when I signed up for the class. This is the top that I made out of scraps that I grabbed at the last minute because, of course, I hadn't planned ahead. It has laid around for over a year because I didn't know how I wanted to quilt it. So when I entered it in an upcoming guild show, I knew that I would be forced to finish it. I started yesterday, and I am pretty happy with the results. I used silk thread on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin. I have about halfway to go on the border. I am just mimicking the print of the fabric. The print is so busy that the quilting can't be made out anyway. So, what do you think?
By the way, I did start and almost completed that competition project. Each side of the diamond of that lone star is about 2". It proved to be so difficult, that I took a break from it and I still haven't got back to it. It is on my list to finish this year. As soon as I get up my nerve again.

I love the unexpected colors of the Lone Star and the swirly border fabric really gives the piece nice movement. Your tiny little quilting is very impressive!
It's beautiful - a Lone Star has been on my to-do list for a long time - still working on building up my skills.
oooh I love your fabric choices! That's a wonderful miniature quilt! =(^_^)=
love the star - can't imagine making something sooooo small
Love the design and I actually like the busyness of the outside border print (which is unusual for me).
