GETTING READY FOR A NEW START

I'm looking forward to the new year.  I always look at it as a new start. I have several goals fror the new year and new decade. The goals aren't much different than what my goals have been in the past, but I am running out of time to accomplish them, so I'd better get going.  I have been getting projects together.  A friend recently told me that she got rid of her UFO's because she didn't want to waste time working on something she no longer liked.  I can totally understand that.  I got rid of one project that just wasn't done well enough to start with to worry about finishing.  I'm still compiling the photo list, and I will post it in a few days.  In the mean time, I can show you a couple of things that I have been working on.

I have been working on a new shawl called WAST SIDE SHAWL .  It is designed by the same person who designed the AESTLIGHT SHAWL that I made in the Death by Chocolate yarn.  I have made a few shawls lately, and that one was my favorite.  This shawl is a little different.  In Aestlight, I knitted the center triangle and then added the trim, in Wast Side, I knit the trim first, and then I pick up stitches to knit the center section.  Interesting concept.  Looks a lot bigger than what it is supposed to be.. I think it is the yarn choice. Oh Well, I'll try it again in something smaller.

I am trying a new way to store my circulars.  Since I have an empty closet, I am using that to store my battings and bolts of various fabrics and interfacings.  On the pole, I have used curtain rings ( found in the curtain section of Walmart $1.75 for 12) On each ring, I have placed all of the circular needles according to size. I have some plastic tags that I will add to each ring to make it easier to find the correct size at first glance.
I have also used these rings to hang the various templates that I don't often use. They are out of my way and easy to find.  Last night I threw away a bunch of magazine articles that I have saved over the years thinking I might get to the project.  I only kept the easy quilt ones because I need ideas on how to use up a lot of fabrics at once.  If I make a difficult quilt, it will be my own design or something adapted from an antique quilt.  I don't make many quilts from patterns anymore..

Well, just thought I would check in.  I have so much to do, I wish that I could retire so I wouldn't have to cram everything into the few days that I have off.  I am going to be picking up extra to cover someone that is going on her maternity leave. Less time- more money.  I know what the right choice is, but I wish I had the time AND the money..
Don't we all..?

Love your system - no empty closets here- but I plan to quilt a holder for my circs and other needles-(2 different holders) to keep them all together so I can find what I need.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas Teri. Thanks for all the great posts. I'm busy organizing things here. It must be catching...

I need to throw everything into the middle of two rooms and start over on the organizing thing. Instead, it is all sitting in the middle of the two rooms in random chaos. Not happening.

Have a great New Year, Teri.
