NEW GADGET

When I was at the workshop the other day, she showed us this little tool.  I have looked at them many times trying to figure out a good use for them, but she showed us how they are used.  They go with a little machine from Simplicity that makes Bias tape.  I'm not sure if they go in the machine or what.  I wouldn't want the machine, but these can be useful.  What they are used for us to wind your quilt binding on.  you hang it around your neck with a ribbon and you can feed the binding from this while sitting at your sewing machine.. ( Think Toilet paper roll) you can buy $3.00 ribbon loops that coordinate (or not).  My idea is, get a couple of those hinged binder rings, click on each end so that the spool will turn in the rings, and not fall off the end of the ribbon loop.  I'll let you know how they work when I bind the quilt I finished.

Recently, I saw this purse in a quilt shop

I bought the pattern.. I will give you the name later because I can't find it off hand.
The point being, I have a thing for bag patterns, and for taupes/grey.
  I figured that i have plenty of these fabrics at home, and I can easily make a similar bag.  So I'm cleaning up, trying to rid myself of stuff, and I found this;
Sorry for the blur, either my camera or my eyes are failing.  Taupes!  and the little blackbird print on the outside is really cute.  I'm set, just have to get going.
I have finished some ufos
This is 1/4 of a twin size quilt that I made for my high school daughter who love roller coasters.  She is now 25, married, and doesn't like roller coasters.  Pretty sad considering that all it ever needed was a back.. I just bought 2.5 yards of 90 Kona Cotton, gave it to my friend to quilt - and viola'  done!
Some things on my ufo list, I have decided to rid myself of.  Like the two Hawaiian quilts.  One I just tossed, and the other I have folded up to give away.  I have absolutely no desire to ever finish them.

Right now, I am working on these.  My favorite easy block. LUCKY STARS
with my favorite black batik which has smudges of color. This quilt will be for me.  I'm getting bored with the few quilts that I use around the house, and it is time for some color.

My daughter and her husband are visiting, and they will be moving back into the area next month.  I can't wait.  I worry about how they will make a living.  My daughter is trying to transfer in her job.  And my son-in-law will be leaving the Marines to go to college.  It's not going to be easy, but at least they will be here and safe.

Well, that's it for now.  I hope that you all have a great weekend!

Hmm. Interesting. They look like they snap into something. I can see putting them on the bobbin winding spools and letting 'em rip. You could wind a lot of binding on those.

I am happy for you that your daughter is moving closer to home. I bet you are thrilled. Mine married a dyed-in-the-wool New Englander and he is planted.
